Meet The Creative With Remy Bernhardt

Meet Remy Bernhardt, the Photographer & Stylist behind our latest Summer ‘22 campaign - Isle Diary. Remy is a travel loving fashion stylist who recently moved into Photography. She hails from Perth, Western Australia, but now resides in beautiful Byron Bay. She spends most of her time jet-setting from one exclusive location to the next, as the creative visionary for many brands, helping them bring their campaigns and editorials alive. After shooting Isle Diary, we sat down for a quick chat with Remy to learn more about her incredible life.

What are your favourite places eat/drink in Byron Bay and surrounds?
There are so many incredible spots to eat around Byron, I have only been living here for around a year, so there are many restaurants and cafes that I haven’t yet discovered.

‘The Road House’ and ‘High Life’ are my favourite spots for brekky.  ‘The Hut’, ‘You Beauty’ and ‘The Eltham’ are my go to spots for lunch, and for dinner I like to eat at ‘Ciao Mate’ in Bangalow or ‘Rucos’ in Brunswick Heads.

What are your favourite places shop in Byron and surrounds?
I always loveee to popping into ‘Forrm Store’, they have the most luxurious and timeless pieces. ‘Hope and May’ is also at the top of my list, it just happens to be next door to Formm Store, and I always go there for their homewares and interior styling inspiration.

What are some of your fave hobbies?
Surfing is what I enjoy the most when I’m not working.
What are some of your favourite beauty essentials?
I believe less is more when it comes to beauty products, I always use Emma Lewisham beauty products which is a circular and sustainable beauty line from NZ.
I also find oil based products are the best for my skin, at the moment I am using an oil from My Ilo which has olive oil, avocado oil, ylang ylang, cardamon and all the yummy things. I rub the oil into my face first thing in the morning and also use it to take off my make up at night.

What is something very important to you?
Working for, buying from and supporting sustainable businesses is something that is extremely important to me.  I never buy fast fashion anymore and avoid photographing and styling for brands who are not ethically or environmentally conscious.

What is your favourite piece from LILYA’s Isle Diary Collection.
All of the pieces from this collection are absolute divine! My favourite look from this collection would have to be the white linen jacket and pants, it looked so divine on Julia.

What made you want to be a photographer/stylist?
Since I was a kid I always loved doing photoshoots with my friends. We would dress up in costumes and I guess style ourselves from whatever we could find in the dress up box. I think that element of playfulness has been a constant throughout my life. When I was at Uni I started a production business called ‘Dust and Bone’ with some of my closest girlfriends, we had no idea what we were doing, but we were so inspired and excited about shooting and styling, I remember I used to get same excited and playful feeling as when I was a kid.
I love creating with friends and groups of creatives, and I love that I can travel with my work.

You come from where in Perth? Tell us about Perth and your fave places there?
I’m from a small country town three hours south of Perth called Margaret River, it  is the best place in the world. Margaret River is known for its vineyards and beautiful pristine beaches. The whole of the south-west has some magical spots, some of my favourite beaches down there include Gnarabup Beach, Injidup Beach and Hamelin Bay.

What is the favourite place you ever visited?
That is a tough question! I think my favourite place on earth would have to be Kenya. The people, the food, the architecture and the memories I have made there hold a special place in my heart. I have been there twice and hope to go back some day soon.
